When Corona got closer
Today I want to talk to you about the way I deal with Corona all around us and how I protect my family and myself as good as possible.
It has been a while since I have been writing something here. I was uninspired and busy with other things that kept me busy and then suddenly everything stands still around me. ……………Everything is cancelled.
My girls have to stay at home from school for weeks and it feels like as I have this kind of emptiness inside me which I can’t describe very well. It’s like I have to start all over with something new for a while.
Besides being here for my family I also know that I need something to keep me busy. I was immediately thinking about my blog again. This place could keep me busy and maybe help others with some inspiration for how to deal with this situation we all are in. I must admit that I am not sure at all how we will deal with this situation for weeks here at home, but I hope to find the answers little by little as we go along. Suggestions would be more than welcome if you have some.
The first thing I went to, when I heard about the virus coming closer, was my essential oils. Essential oils are really good to use for fighting viruses and colds.
First I must tell you that I am not at all an expert on Essential oils, but two years ago I was introduced to essential oils and since then it has grown on me and I am using them for all kind of reasons. It has become my new medicine.
When you start using essential oils it also means that you need to dig into the background of the oils and into the different herbs and plants to understand how to use it wisely and well. I have had a few small workshops, but mostly learned what I know by experience and reading about the oils’s. Most of the recipes I use I find on Pinterest. I have said it before in other blogpost’s but Pinterest is really THE place to find everything, especially DIY things (and I am not being paid to say that). You just type what kind of issue you want to treat and you get a lot of tips and recipes.
Getting back to our Corona issue here at the moment. Corona is a virus, a kind of really bad cold and for colds, you can find a lot of tip on Pinterest using essential oils.
Recipe 1 – Colds
One of my favorite mixes is this one I give you here.
(It has really worked so well on me and my family every time we felt a sore throat or a runny nose.
In a roller or bottle of 5 ml you mix:
- 2 drops of Thyme
- 2 drops of Teatree
- 1 drop of Eucalyptus Radiata
- 3 drops of Geranium
- 3 drops of cardamom
Fill the rest of the bottle with a carrier oil of your choice. (I love to use Jojoba oil) and then shake well.
Roll the oil onto your skin, fx. in your neck or on your wrists and repeat that 2/3/4 times a day depending on how strong your cold is. This mixture really helps us here at home keeping the cold down to a minimum.
We also have several diffusers around the house. One in the living room and one in each bedroom. Sometimes I also move them around so I have one close to me when needed during the day.
What the diffuser does is cleans the air in the room and kill’s the bacteria you are breathing out. But the oil also goes into your lungs and body and helps you restore. In the diffusers, I use different kinds of oil. The oils I use most of the time for colds are Thyme, Oregano, Teatree, Lemon, Peppermint, Thieves and Eucalyptus. I don’t use them all together but mostly use two, three of four together. One or two drops of each are enough to diffuse for many hours.
When we heard about the Coronavirus coming closer and we were told to wash our hands very carefully several times a day. People started buying a stock of hand soap and hand sanitizer’s which meant that a lot of us didn’t get a chance to buy any. Luckily I knew another way’s to get a hand sanitizer. I made one myself with my essential oils. it’s very easy and more kind to your hands as well.
Recipe 2 – Hand sanitizer
Here the recipe for Hand sanitizer:
- 1 cup of 100% pure Aloe Vera gel
- 1 tablespoon of Witch Hazel
- 30 drops of Teatree
- 5-10 drops of antibacterial oil such as lavender, rosemary, sage, sandalwood or peppermint.
- 4-5 drops of Vitamin E oil ( this is a natural preservative oil and will also make your skin soft)
Next to using a lot of the oils we also try to eat healthy of course. Fruit and vegetables are very important and we eat a lot of that. But I also think that there must be room for some sweet treats now and then. And being home is the perfect way to make some goodies ourselves and that way also get some variation in our day here at home.
It is a strange time at the moment and we just have to get through this as good as possible with each other.
I hope that I can get some more life into this blog again and this way get through all the difficulties we will face the following period.
